Dr. A.P.J. was known as people’s president. There are many times when he surprise peoples. Today we are sharing some heart winning moments of Abdul Kalam. Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameshwaram,Tamil Nadu. He studied physics and aerospace engineering in Rameshwaram. He was Indian aerospace scientist and 11th president of India (2002 to 2007). After all the spends around 40 years as scientist and science administration, mainly in DRDO ( Defence Research and Development Organisation ) and ISRO( Indian Space Research Organisation) and involved in India’s civil space program and military missile development efforts. So he is also known as Missile Man of India. He played important role in India’s first successful nuclear test in Pokhran in 1998.He was very down to earth. And in his term many times he wins the people heart and here are few of them-
1. When he refused to sit on designated chair for president.
Once during the event at IIT Varanasi, Abdul Kalam was invited as chief guest. There are 8 chairs on the stage. But the the chair of Mr Kalam was larger in the size. When Abdul Kalam see that his chair is larger in the size so he refused to sit on that chair and offer his chair to the vice chancellor to sit instead, according to a published account. Obviously the VC also then I need to sit on the chair and the chair is remove and another chair made available immediately. This shows the simplicity of Abdul Kalam.
2. Reject the suggestion of Putting broken glass on wall.
When Abdul Kalam was in in Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and his team is discussing on the security perimeter of a building that need to be secured. Then someone give the suggestion to put broken glass on wall but kalam refused the suggestion saying that it will harm the birds. Kalam said if we do that, birds will not able to perch on wall.
3. When Kalam sit on floor.
This incident was happen during Ramnath Goenka Awards in 2007. Kalam was invited as chief guest. There was debate going on media ethics. In between the debate Mr. Kalam stood up to go. But journalist stopped him to listen the answer of his question. Mr Kalam set on the floor and indulge in the debate and give his suggestion that we should do debate on development by considering a point that how can we improve the life of 20 million people living below poverty line.
4. When he says thank you to his guard.
It was the day when Abdul Kalam was died. On the 27 July 2015 Abdul Kalam went to IIM Shillong to attend a function as a chief guest. He landed to the Guwahati airport, from there it was about two and half hour journey from the car. There were about 4 to 5 cars with him. After 1 hour he see that a guard in his front vehicle is standing so he asked his PA why this man is standing, it is like punishment. He asked his PA to communicate with this man on a wireless to sit. But the connection was not made. When there is to Shillong, he meet the guard and thank you and apologize that he was standing for two and half hour just because of him. It shows the humble nature of Mr kalam.
