What is Pulse Oximeter ?
This is a testing device which measure the oxygen in blood level. Basically its clip type device which can be wear in thumb or finger in hands. it does not give any pain but it can measure small changes in body. It is also called SPO2 meter.
How Pulse Oximeter Works ?
There is a light sensor use in Pulse Oximeters, Which sense how much blood carrying the oxygen and how much don’t. Oxygen carrying hemoglobin is darker in color with compare to non oxygen carrying hemoglobin. so this sensor check the variation of blood with oxygen and without oxygen. And basis on calculation it gives the result in percent.
Normally for a healthy person, oxygen level is in between 94 to 100%. and below this level is not good for health. if the level goes below the 90% then you should consult the doctor.
Use of Pulse Oximeter for Covid Patients
The major issue in Covid-19 positive patients is that suddenly their oxygen level go down and the feel breathless. But the major patients don’t have any symptoms and they don’t need to admit to hospitals. So government give them SPO2 meters to check the oxygen levels at home. If levels go below the 90% then with the consult of doctor; Patients is shift to hospital.
